Donut often used to try to escape at about dinner time if his vegetables had not arrived. We would always help him as did the other Western visitors. All he wanted to do was eat some grass which was growing just outside the enclosure. It would be very healthy for him to be able to graze. There was never a problem with getting him to come back into the enclosure. As soon as Donut heard the sound of the dinner trays being put out, he immediately came back in. After his failed attempt to escape he passes by Whip who is eating some hay. He communicates with Whip to indicate that he, Donut, would like to eat that hay, so Whip moves away. There is not much hay and it doesn't taste very nice, so Donut goes to the hay rick.
