Laura has livedexperience of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and shares her story in the hopes of raising awareness of PMDD.

She is joined by our host, Professor Arianna di Florio, lead researcher of the Reproductive Mental Health Programme at Cardiff University, and Research Assistant, Chloe Apsey.

Arianna and Chloe launched a new study into PMDD in September 2022 PreDDICT (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder indicators, causes and triggers) www.ncmh.info/preddict

What is PMDD?

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) is a mood disorder that is estimated to affect around 5.5% of women and people who experience periods. That’s around 80,000 people in the UK.

PMDD is directly linked to the menstrual cycle – however, it is not a result of a hormone imbalance but is believed to be a severe negative reaction to the natural fluctuations of oestrogen and progesterone that occur in the cycle.
