Petardy Historic Landscape Project: a Student-led Study | ARP 2023

Society of Antiquaries of Scotland

Petardy Historic Landscape Project (PHLP) is a multiyear, studentled research project in the EastNeuk of Fife. Investigation of the research area, which provides material from the Neolithic to the Modern, takes the form of recordbased research, field walking, geophysical survey, and excavation. A central focus of the project is enabling access to archaeology for students and community members of all backgrounds, as well as leading tours of the research area for groups that otherwise have limited exposure to archaeology.

Anna Robinson (she/they) is a 3rd year undergraduate studying for a degree in Ancient History & Archaeology at the University of St Andrews. They joined the Petardy Historic Landscape Project in 2021 as the team’s Archaeobotanist and has since led drawn and photographic surveys of Pittarthie Castle and its gardens, among other adventures in the research area. Their interests within the project lie in the relationships of the castle to other not yet known structures and the wider landscape.

This recorded talk took place on Saturday 27th May 2023, at Augustine United Church and was chaired by Moira Greig, President of Archaeology Scotland.

ARP 2023 is sponsored by Forestry and Land Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland, GUARD Archaeology Ltd, Association of Local Government Archaeology Officers, and the Federation of Archaeological Managers & Employers.
