Pet Loss Syndrome | How to Cope with The Loss of A Pet

Pet loss Syndrome refers to the sense of loss that people feel when their loved pet has passed away. If it happens to you, no matter how prepared you are, you will be very sad. Let's find out how to move through grief after loss.

Coping With Losing A Pet

1. Grieving The Loss Of A Pet

1) Feel Sad

Right after the death, you may feel sorry and sad because of things you couldn't do for her instead of thinking of the good old days. Grief is normal. So take enough time to feel sad. Deep sadness will go away over time. But if it’s hard to let go for a long time, see a petloss counselor.

2) Stay Away From Unsupportive People

Some people don't get the sadness of losing a pet. While you feel empty, they don't get what you feel and say things that can hurt your feelings. In this case, you may feel more depressed. Stay away from those for a while.

3) Keep Memories

You can keep memories in a photo album, a memory box, or a tree.  As you focus on collecting things, you can not only keep the memories, but also cope with sadness and bring back happy memories.

2. Helping Other Pets Deal With Their Grief

1) Do Daily Things Just As Before

If you have another pet at home, she can feel the same loss as you. Animals bond with each other. So when one has gone to the rainbow bridge, the remaining one might get sick or even die shortly after in the worst case. To help her, just do daily things as before.

2) Don’t Reward Your Pet For Depression

Rewarding your pet for depression isn't helpful and can make the situation worse. When she looks sad and depressed, you can try to turn her attention to things like toys.

If you are having a hard time with this these days, we want you to remember the good old days with your pet. Your loved one may watch over you at the rainbow bridge now. If you are sad, she is sad there. We hope you're getting a little less sad.
