This is one of my daily joys that I indulge in. Reaching for a perfume, oil, scented wax/candle or
room spray.

The experience that odorlinked memories cause is called the Proust effect. This name came about because the author Marcel Proust wrote in his book, Swann's Way, that the smell of a pastry he dipped in his tea brought on a rush of joy associated with his childhood.

Why do scents take you back to memories long ago? There is a reason that our minds connect scent to memories. It has to do with a mechanism in our brain. Of our five senses, only our sense of smell can directly send a signal to the hippocampus, accessing memories stored within.
