1 pound (454g) penne pasta
1 28ounce (793g) can of plum tomatoes handcrushed or blender pulsed
1 cup (180g) olives pitted and chopped
2 tablespoons (26g) capers rinsed
1/4 cup (52g) extra virgin olive oil
2 ounces (56g) tomato paste
6 cloves garlic sliced
5 anchovy fillets mashed
1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
salt and pepper to taste
3 tablespoons flatleaf Italian parsley minced
3 tablespoons basil hand torn
24 ounces reserved pasta water
