As part of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s advocacy in Geneva during the U.N. Human Rights Committee’s review of U.S. compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the SPLC and our partners held a side panel discussion on the rising tide of hate crimes in the U.S. In a conversation moderated by SPLC President and CEO Margaret Huang, hate crime survivors Haifa Jabara and Taylor Dumpson told the searing stories of the hate and violence directed at them that continues to affect their lives, and about the advocacy they have courageously carried out since the crimes happened. Jabara, whose son was murdered by the same perpetrator who attacked her, was joined by Khalid Jabara Foundation board member Shagah Zakerion.
