Pack Dynamics at the Farm

Follow
The Farm

First things first, every pack is different. Determined by the individual pack members and the leader. No two packs are the same, but there are similarities. This is ours. It isnt an average domestic pack. Hence, how we discuss it.

I am feeling a little nervous about sharing this video publicly. Not just in our members section. I’m going to be honest as to why. There’s a lot of various opinions on how a pack works. It seems it can be quite the topic for debate. We’ve kind of avoided talking about it.

But there’s been a number of people asking to hear our thoughts on it and how it works for our pack. So I would like to try and put some of this out there to see if people are interested in hearing our take on it.

I feel I’d like to put a few disclaimers on what we’re talking about here.

It is just OUR experience. Everyone has their own experiences and opinions. AND all dogs are different, so each pack will be DIFFERENT. This is simply ours. It is no reflection on yours. If yours works differently and works well that is truly all that is important. Luke’s experience comes from literally blood sweat and tears trying to bring together an almost impossible pack of dogs to respect one another and work together not against each other. I guess and also, 4060 dogs at day care doing extremely intense games all getting along not fighting each other. It’s more the view from the experience of these more extreme situations.

Having a pack of dogs that came from different beginnings to ours, would likely not need such management and training and such a view on hierarchy. Imagine if we had more Cutie Pies or Joey’s and less Freddos, Roscos, Chances, Nevaeh’s and Shadow’s etc. It would be different. Not better, we’re not saying that at all, just different.

Our own pack is a little not so typical, 2030 (I’m adding in some holiday dogs) dogs free range together in the home add in some children and a cat etc etc. With the majority of the dogs being one or more of the following; history of high level aggression, no socialisation, abused, suspected interbreeding for antisocial behaviours, backyard breeding with no value in breeding for temperament or health. Then add to that, 8 of the pack members just going into the most difficult stage of adolescence, 7 of them littermates of three sets of litters with all the normal potential behaviours that could possibly emerge like sibling aggression etc.

This is definitely the perspective from a trainer point of view. I understand that. If I take off the trainer POV glasses and put on my me selfglasses, I love this pack and wouldn’t have it any other way. They’re all uniquely different and yes challenging, but the best things in life can sometimes come from the things you work the hardest at and that are most challenging.

I guess I’m just trying to paint the picture of what kind of pack we’re referring to from experience when Luke talks about pack hierarchy and pack dynamics.

It’s just so debated and I don’t want to start anything here. I’m sharing for those that are interested about our OWN pack. It could be interesting, maybe some people might not have thought it was that way with some of the pack members.

Luke is also a unique individual in this pack situation. He is who he is from his own life experiences and personality. Just like Chance and Freddo and Rosco.

I truly hope this can just be a video that some people find interesting. Let me know, and we can either continue talking about this kind of subject down the track or not.

Happy Saturday everyone ❤

Also P.S I will try to film more of the dogs next time and not just Luke. I realised on this one I was so focused on getting the audio by having the camera clos to Luke and him facing it. Sorry everyone ❤
