A male of Oriental turtle dove (aka Eastern turtle dove or rufous turtle dove; Streptopelia orientalis, family Columbidae) singing softly on the perch of electric cable. He stopped singing on alert (he was afraid of me) and nervously preened and scratched himself. In order to avoid my gaze, the camerashy bird began to move to the right along the electric cable; sidestepping at first and then tightroping. Eventually, he flew off. The moment of takeoff was replayed at 5x slowmotion. Captured in the sunny latemorning (around 11:40 AM) of earlyAugust 2023 in Japan. You can also hear Eurasian Tree Sparrow (Passer montanus, family Passeridae) and Oriental Greenfinch (Carduelis sinica, family Fringillidae) calling in the background.
