This pattern is a good prospecting wet fly. It's highly visual features attract the attention of trout. The sparkle dubbing thorax reflects light while the soft partridge underwing feather fibers move fluidly in the water. This fly has just enough weight to fish at most stream depths without extra weight. In addition to this color different body color combinations like green, yellow or gray versions are also good. At the end of the video there is a visual comparison of two hackle collar densities . This leads to a discussion of sparse, medium or heavy hackled softhackled collars on flies. Personally, I design and tie my fly patterns hackle collars to fit the species, life stage and water type I'm fishing so that I have a choice of flies in order to get the right drift depth from near the streambed, to just under the surface and to on top of the water surface, in order to match the level of where fish are feeding and have them look realistic at that level. Please leave a comment if you want to discuss the density of softhackle collars you like to tie and fish and why.
