A lion's roar can be heard up to five miles away. Remember that when you're standing five feet in front of them!
Many who visit the Conservators Center say that the "oofing" of the lion prides was the most memorable part of their trip. "Oofing" is our word for the unique sound our lions make when they call to one another. This nonaggressive vocalization is used in the wild to communicate with other members of the same pride, or to communicate territory between different prides. It's a primal, powerful sound that you'll never forget.
