In this week’s Deep Houseboat Life video, we take our Lake Lanier houseboat out on its maiden voyage for 2022. We decided to make a last minute trip to our houseboat on Lake Lanier, despite all the moving boxes still at our new home in the Athens, GA area. A big thunderstorm came through northeast Georgia about a month ago, and we had to assess the damage done to our houseboat. We also needed to make a list of what houseboat cleaning and maintenance should get completed before we go off grid houseboat camping more regularly.

When we say, “houseboat camping,” we don’t mean camping in a tent on a beach or island. We also don’t mean camping in a tent on our actual houseboat. Houseboat camping, to us, is sleeping off grid on a houseboat while it is beached and tied to trees on shore.

Initially, we weren’t even going to take our off grid houseboat out for its maiden voyage. Though, like all good houseboat liveaboards, we are always watching the weather for the perfect moment to take out our boat.
