Normal Renal physiology is one of the greatest topics in medicine, yet, very few people understand...In this video, you will learn how the kidney filters fluid (Glomerular filtration rate and renal plasma flow), as well as the ability of the proximal convoluted tubule to reabsorb and secrete electrolytes and to maintain the acidbase balance of the body via secretion of acid (secondary active transport) and reclamation (reabsorption) of bicarbonate (HCO3).

A defect in the proximal convoluted tubule is called Fanconi Syndrome (not to be confused with Fanconi anemia) leading to type2 (or proximal) renal tubular acidosis (RTA).
