Anything to do with Metal Gear Solid 5 continues to attract controversy even now, years on from when it first came out, but though that’s certainly true, its prologue, Ground Zeroes, is much harder to find fault with.

Back when it first launched, its short length (combined with its price) meant that it was criticized by a fair few people, and while those criticisms weren’t without merit, in hindsight, Ground Zeroes’ stock has only grown as time has gone on.

From the freedom it provided in its open world sandbox to the impressive amount of content it delivered through its optional offerings, to how excellently its map struck a balance between player freedom and painstakingly handcrafted design, Ground Zeroes was an incredible glimpse of what an open world Metal Gear game could be had it been given the time to exist in the form that it should have.
