*Edit* it's been suggested that it was Gabby who got bonked by the owl and there are features that support that I based my ID for making the video on AEF's ID, and will watch for any updates from them. Just glad that whichever eagle it was, it returned grumpy but unharmed!
NEFL Eagle Cam 12/08/2022: In the early morning hours, newcomer V2 is perched near Gabby in the nest tree. He gets his first meeting with Hootie the neighborhood owl who comes in like a rocket and knocks V2 from his perch despite his best efforts to hang on. (Listen for Hootie's "victory hoot" on the outward flight.) V2 is startled but unharmed, and he returns shortly afterward both he and Gabby proceed to let Hootie know what they think of such rude behavior!
Why do owls "bonk" eagles? No one knows for sure maybe to let them know they are not to be taken lightly even though they are smaller raptors, and maybe just because they can.
