Irori Sanzoku Kuga / いろり山賊 玖珂店(https://www.irorisanzoku.co.jp/)
“Sanzoku” (山賊) means “mountain bandit” and at Irori Sanzoku, you can experience just what it felt like to be a mountain pirate hidden deep in the Japanese mountains with their rustic menu and incredible attention to architectural detail that is everything you might imagine when you think of traditional Japan. Irori Sanzoku (AKA “The Chicken Shack”) helps visitors step back in time to the age of ninjas and samurai by watching chickens grill in front of them on the “irori” (Japanese hearth) and by warming up under a kotatsu (heated floor table) in an almost theme parklike atmosphere. This unusual restaurant where “every day is a festival” has been featured on TV and is incredibly popular with locals, Americans taking a break from the nearby Kuga Base, and those driving on the National Highway Route 2 from Yamaguchi to Hiroshima. It is famous for its largerthanlife onigiri rice balls and teriyaki BBQ chicken, but we tried out more to give you a full food review! Kintai Bridge / 錦帯橋 (https://kintaikyo.iwakunicity.net/)
Kintai Bridge, which is best known for its beautiful arches and complex architecture, is one of Japan’s 3 most famous bridges. Many tourists combine a trip to Kintai Bridge and Iwakuni with a day trip to Hiroshima. Make sure not to miss this beautiful piece of Japanese heritage from your Japan travel itinerary!
