1 in 20 children, aged between five and sixteen, suffer with serious behavioral issues ranging from refusing to eat, antisocial behaviour, disruptive and violent tendencies. Mental health disorders in children can be hard to diagnose and for some parents not knowing whether their child suffers from a mental condition or just badly behaved can add more frustration to an already stressful home life.

In this series, experts Dr Ravi Jayaram and Dr Dawn Harper, along with clinical psychologists, are going to help parents fast track the process to determine whether their children need medical help or if they are simply out of control.

In this Episode:

3 year old Billy is a sweet but troublesome kid with a scary temper and a compulsion to put things in order. Even though he’s young he can get very aggressive, throwing large objects around and has even split his mum's lip open. Robyn, his mother, is scared that when he gets to school age he’ll be outcast and alone because of his behavioural issues, and that time fast approaches. Because Autism runs in the family and Billy shows some of the telltale signs, Robyn suspects this might be the reason for his unusual behaviour. But could there be something less obvious behind it all?

Charlie is 8 years old and has already been chucked out of school. He has major anger issues and has no problem taking it out on his elders with his mum, Maxine, bearing the brunt of the punishment. Being kicked down the stairs and regularly attacked by her own son can be disheartening especially when no one even takes her seriously. Police don’t tend to believe you when you say you’re 6 year old is out of control and beating you up. Charlie shows a lot of the major signs of autism, turning from his usual self to this scary ball of rage at the slightest trigger, but getting help or a diagnosis for him is proving impossible with so much dismissal and doubt. Will getting a proper a diagnosis give Maxine the answers she needs to help Charlie deal with his aggressive and antisocial behaviors before it’s too late?
