Backcountry Shelter or LeConte Lodge? WHICH ONE SHOULD YOU DO? I did both and both were amazing.
On this trip in Great Smoky Mountains National Park I spend 3 days/ 2 nights hiking Mt Leconte...one of the tallest mountains in the Smokies. I began by climbing the Rainbow Falls Trail up the the Bull Head Trail and stayed the first night in the backcountry shelter. I visit Cliff Tops for the sunset and then Myrtle Point for the Sunrise. Then I packed my things and headed over to the amazing LeConte Lodge for one night. It was an amazing experience to step back in time during my visit there. On my last day I woke up and headed down the Trillium Gap Trail and passed the llama train headed up the mountain.
This was an amazing trip and two totally different experiences wrapped into one trip. So which one would you prefer? The shelter or the lodge?
