Microphone Directivity Demo: Hear different Capsule Polar Patterns

Follow
SCHOEPS Mikrofone

A short video showcasing the directivity of different microphone capsules.

All sounds are just one mono microphone signal at a time as stated in the captions of the video. No automation was used. You can hear the directivity of the different capsule polar patterns in the changing sound of the Vespa driving a circle around the mic in the horizontal plane. Since the motorcycle creates a very wide spectrum, the directivity effect of a wider frequency band can be shown. In the meanwhile, ambience sounds like birds or the drone (particularly in case of the figureofeight pattern) do not change at all. All patterns plotted are the actual measurements (at 1 kHz) of the individual capsules used in the video.

Microphones used are SCHOEPS Colette Series CMC 6 amplifiers with the following capsules and wind screens:
00:29 MK 4 cardioid (https://schoeps.de/mk4) with Cinela Piano PIA1
00:48 MK 2 omni (https://schoeps.de/mk2) with B 5 D
01:04 MK 41 supercardioid (https://schoeps.de/mk41) with B 5 D
01:20 MK 8 figureofeight (https://schoeps.de/mk8) with Cinela Piano PIA1
