Selective laser melting is a method of creating complex metal objects from 3D computer models. This is done through the layerbylayer solidification of metal powder using a high power laser. This technique can therefore make geometries which are impossible to make with traditional subtractive methods of manufacturing.
This video shows the process on a Concept Laser mLab cusing system.
