David Clavero travels to Germany to test the new Mazda MX30 REV, a car that combines the best of hybrid and electric vehicles. This extendedrange electric vehicle aims to demonstrate in the market that there is a different way to approach electrification. Mazda's tendency to do things differently and go against the current should no longer surprise us, with the MX30 being one of the most evident examples of this philosophy, almost like a flagship for the Japanese manufacturer.

The extendedrange electric vehicle is essentially a series hybrid, but with a larger capacity battery and the option to recharge this battery externally, providing a certain level of independence when operating as an electric vehicle.

With this in mind, Mazda has reduced the battery to 17.8 kWh, half the capacity of the fully electric model, integrated a 50liter gasoline tank in the available space, and installed a singlerotor Wankel engine with 830 cubic centimeters and 75 horsepower. This engine serves exclusively as an electric generator and cannot directly power the wheels.

The setup is designed so that the wheels of the Mazda MX30 REV are always driven by a 170horsepower electric motor and 260 Nm of torque.
