Marley Round 2 observations May 8

This video starts after Marley had BATTED (meaning he increased his own distance /it was his choice/giving him agency) himself away down over a small hill away from our helper dog . We honor this and follow the dog

11 sec I "ask" him with a body prompt if he would like to return up over the hill . Checking in with you is perfectly fine and lovely . It is a tribute to the social attachment he has with you.
I ask you to take a step forward so as to communicate you are coming.

At 33 sec he glances over to our Helper dog . If you look closely at his mouth you will see him lick his lip followed by a shake off. (you can slow the video down using the thumb wheel located at the bottom of the video) These are called calming signals and they are used by the dog to self calm or to calm others. They are socially appropriate!! If we saw a cumulation of these then we can surmise stress is rising and we should support and move away.

38 sec He gets a little stuck around 38 sec (still body, mouth shuts) so I slightly indicate and interrupt the stare. I want to use as a minimally invasive way to move him away

54 sec he glance at the Helper and moves off on his own
100 he looks at the Helper again and then does a lovely hello with you. This bond he has with you and that fact he checks in is nice to see. We don't need to give food but stopping to give a scratch or a verbal "hey good job buddy" is appropriate
