Devoted Frank Christie, 63, created the fake grass pitch complete with a sign saying "Welcome to Christie Park" to stop the footballdaft lads getting covered in muck. And grandsons Matthew, 10, Aiden, seven and Niall, 4, are delighted as their mum Donna no longer gives them a row for getting their clothes filthy at the park and in their old front garden. Retired heating enginer Frank said: “Donna was always telling them to get off the grass because it was so muddy they ended up filthy. "She was going through a box of soap powder every week, so we came up with the idea of laying a plastic pitch.”
