Local Farmers Local Fish: Yellow Perch

Follow
Purdue Extension

Yellow perch is a regional favorite in the Great Lakes region of the United States. It is known for its place at the table of Friday night fish fries. Hear Titus Seilheimer, The Fisheries Specialist for Wisconsin Sea Grant, talk about the history of the yellow perch commercial fishery and how the fish's popularity piqued fish farmers' interest. You will also hear from fish farmers Bill West, Cory Petri, and Doug Sackett as they talk about yellow perch farming. During this video, you will see a couple of examples of fish culture methods. This road trip through Wisconsin made up the next series of stops IllinoisIndiana Sea Grant (IISG) staff made on the quest to learn more about fish farming, also known as aquaculture, in the Midwest.
