This compilation contains music form the Baroque era which lasted form the early 17th century until the mid18the century. Baroque is marked by an extravagant style of music, painting and architecture. The word Baroque comes from the French, hence the title. The grandeur of the Baroque was encouraged by the Catholic Churce in contrast of the simplicity of the Protestant Churce. The style started in Italy in the 17th century and spread across Europe.
In music Baroque meant a period of experimentation and innovation, resulting in new forms of music like concerto and sinfonia. EarlyBaroque concerto consisted of voices and instruments in which the instruments had differtent parts as opposed tot he initial form in which the instruments accompanied voices. In the late Baroque concerto evolved to its modern shape where in the concertino (a small group of instruments) was often reduced to a single instrument playing with (or against) an orchestra. The main composers of the Late Baroque concerto were Bach, Telemann, Vivaldi, Albinoni and Handel among others. A sinfonia is a short piece of music with a means to calm and silence people in advance of the main piece of music. One of the greatest inventions of the Baroque era was the invention of the piano by Cristofori, an employee of none other than Ferdinando de’Medici.
On this compilation you will find the best the Baroque era has to offer: Concertos of Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Frideric Handel, Georg Philipp Telemann, Antonio Vivaldi, Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni, Carlo Ambrogio Lonati, Alessandro Scarlatti, Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer, Johann Melchior Molter, Charles Dieupart, Francesco Antonio Bonporti and Nicola Porpora!
