In this video from 1972, Koko is 1yearold. Penny has recently started Project Koko while Koko was living at the San Francisco Zoo. Penny has a mirror that she placed in front of Koko who interacts with it in a number of ways, including knocking on it, looking behind it, and sticking her tongue out at her reflection.

Human babies typically begin to recognize themselves in the mirror around 18 months of age. This ability is known as selfrecognition and is a significant milestone in a child's cognitive and emotional development.
