Physical Therapy Care Settings

Acute Care
In the acute setting, physical therapists specialize in treating medically fragile children staying in the hospital. These include highrisk infants, postsurgical patients, and children with a variety of diagnoses.

Rehabilitation
In the rehabilitation setting, physical therapists specialize in facilitating independence while the child is recovering from a serious accident, such as spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, or serious illness including cancer, rheumatologic diseases, and infections. Physical therapy is an integral component of the intensive rehabilitation program while staying in the hospital.

Outpatient Care
Outpatient physical therapists treat children from the community and specialize in the evaluation and treatment of orthopedic, neurological, developmental musculoskeletal disorders, rheumatologic diseases, and wound care.
