Joan Didion is introduced by Lewis MacAdams, director of The Poetry Center at San Francisco State University, then reads from the opening chapter of A Book of Common Prayer. This firstever public reading by Didion takes place February 23, 1977, in the César Chavez Student Union at SF State. The fullprogram video includes Didion reading all of part One, eleven chapters, of her new novel, then entertaining questions on her writing from the audience for an additional 20 minutes.
