Baudrillard stands as one of the most influential and relevant thinkers of the later 20th century. Best known for his work Simulacra and Simulation, Baudrillard's intellectual career started with The System of Objects. A book that sought to analyze the newly emerging world of signvalue, and the material rupture of early serial commodities. Baudrillard sought to bring a structural, material analysis with newer fields such as semiotics and social psychoanalysis as to give a new lens to 20thcentury capitalism. As The System of Objects developed from his Ph.D. thesis, it serves as a relatively quiet, yet important piece of philosophy that helped shape late 20thcentury thought.
