(MAJOR/MINOR SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRETY OF THE JAMES BOND FILM FRANCHISE)

A full saga review/analysis.

Despite giving us some of the best films in the James Bond franchise, as Craig’s time as Bond comes to an end, sadly, I look back on the saga with utter ambivalence. Which prompted me to consider how something I was so excited for ended up as, frankly, an irrelevant asterisk of contemporary Hollywood cinema.

My primary thesis is that it never seemed like the creative leads could decide whether they wanted the saga to consist of a series of selfcontained films, as is accustomed to the series, or act as a serialized whole, which in turn leads to each chapter not really fitting together in terms of Bond’s characterization, yet also not able to be viewed as a strictly stand alone adventure. Thus making it an antithematic disaster.

Each film will have its own section, consisting of an overall review and breakdown of how with each subsequent entry Bond’s characterization and larger thematic contentions of the saga, become more disjointed.
