When you drive off pavement in mountainous terrain, or if you pull a trailer, you put your vehicle through "SEVERE DUTY". This means you'll need to change out your fluids "earlier" than normal use. This will go for ALL vehicles, but not every car manufacturer defines severe duty the same. For example, Subaru considers stop and go traffic in the city "severe duty". Honda considers slow mountainous driving "severe duty".

Under the severe duty schedule, the rear differential fluid in a 2016+ Pilot, 2017+ Ridgeline and 2019+ Passport needs to be changed out every 15K miles (7.5K for the first time). Basically, you should change the rear diff fluid every 3 oil changes. Since the average driver does about 15K miles a year, EVERY SINGLE YEAR you can save $135 to 185.

**SUPER IMPORTANT** Make sure you use the right fluid, which is the Dual Pump II fluid (NOT VTM4 FLUID).


Below are the items you'll need. Do not over pay for anything. I found that Dual pump fluid II was being marked up 3x on Amazon. The below link is currently the cheapest price ($6.34 per quart), but that may change in the future. Also, see if buying in bulk will save you money on shipping.
