Sophia is a social humanoid robot developed by the Hong Kongbased company Hanson Robotics.

She is a 'social robot' who can mimic social behavior and is depicted as a science fiction character representing the future of AI and robotics.

Sophia is the world's first robot citizen (of Saudi Arabia) and the first robot Innovation Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme.

Sophia was activated on February 14, 2016.
