Deep inside a Roku TCL QLED TV (5 series 55S555, 2022/2023) I take this TV apart and operate the LCD separated from the backlight. You can see that it is actually partially transparent and see how the color filters operate to generate colors. Also I take a look at what is generating color in the back light unit (BLU) including the LED and phosphors and quantum dots. A new technology using an extruded QD part is used in this TV (xQDEF) which is pretty neat. Finally, some analysis of the color converting materials (QD, Phosphor) and looking at the fullarray local dimming (FALD) capabilities of this TV.
