Welcome to Saltstraumen, near Bodø in Northern Norway. Hundreds of millions of cubic metres of water flow through this narrow strait every day as one of the world’s strongest tidal currents. More info: https://www.lifeinnorway.net/saltstra...
The resulting maelstrom draws tourists from far and wide, and plenty of seabirds too looking for their lunch. Saltstraumen bridge was opened in 1978 to reduce the risk to ferries trying to cross the strait. On the other side of the bridge, you can fully appreciate the strength of the current.
The spectacular mountain backdrop tops off the scenery in this relaxing area, which has been home to human settlers for thousands of years because of the fishing opportunities brought by the currents. Thanks for watching.
