Ice Skating: How Your Blade Works

Follow
Marcels Hockey School

Ice skating, or playing hockey, is done on a thin steel blade, 2030 centimeters in length depending on skate size (or even shorter for small children).
In order to skate well, you have to know how to manipulate the blade, so that you are using the correct part of it to perform a certain skating skill. Depending on how you shift your body weight, you will be able to turn, stop, glide, or accelerate better, because each of these skills is performed with a different part of the blade.
It's pretty simple, regardless of if you're a beginner or a pro: if you know what part of the blade you need to be on, and how to adjust your body positioning in order to get there, you're going to skate better! This video will take your understanding of this concept, and hence your skating, to the next level!
