I faced my anxiety and use a wheelchair for the first time in 6 years for my ME/CFS (myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome). I have been very afraid of using wheelchairs since I first tried one when I was 16 because of the way I felt when using one, I felt uncomfortable with the attention and at the time wheelchair use caused me an anxiety attack. Since then, I have become much more comfortable with my disability and the word disabled and have even gotten used to using other mobility aids, as I have a walking stick, so I decided that it was to try to use a wheelchair again!

This time, despite having a panic attack in the morning, I felt comfortable in the wheelchair and even enjoyed myself, especially because the chair allowed me to save my energy so I could participate in the fun fair at the University of Bath for longer than I would have otherwise!!

This has shown me that Wheelchairs can be a valuable aid for me and increase the accessibility of different activities for me, and I will definitely be trying them out again in the future.
