My incredible supporters over on Twitch helped raise over 10,000 US dollars to help the AMAZING team at Ocean Conservation Namibia, who rescue countless fur seals every year! Part of the event included a live interview with these amazing rescuers, including Naude Dreyer, his wife Katja, and Antoine! Here's what they had to say.

As a marine biologist who has participated in the rescue and disentanglement of seals and sea lions, I have mountains of respect for OCN's hard work and dedication. I also know just how much goes into rescuing incredible marine mammals like seals and sea lions. A lot of expensive gear is required, from customized nets to specialized scissors specifically designed to cut things like the packing straps that are wrapped around the throats of these fur seals. These tools are not cheap. Nor is the gas required to reach the beaches and rookeries where these fur seals congregate.

Thousands of seals, sea lions, and other marine mammals become entangled in ocean trash every year. All too often, packing straps and other garbage finds its way into our oceans where it can cause devastating injuries to these marine mammals. The good news is that there are simple things you can do to help! Cutting loops on packing straps and other garbage can prevent marine life from becoming entangled in the first place. You can also recycle, reduce, and reuse to limit the amount of garbage in the first place!
