Step 1: Disassemble your Xbox One controller so you can access all parts of the shell.

I would highly recommend using some plastic trim tool to remove your controller shell as other tools can and will damage your controller.

Step 2: Clean the Xbox One Controller with Soap and Water

Thoroughly clean all parts of the Xbox One controller with soap and hot water (yes you can use cold too)

Let the controller dry for 510 minutes.

Step 3: Scuff the Controller to Prep for Plastic Adhesive Promoter

Next, take your scuff pads and begin to scuff the controller. You're effectively roughing the controller up so things, like paint, stick better to the surface.

You want to make sure the surface is rough, and there is some resistance when you run your finger across it. Err on the side of overdoing it here it will make the end product even better.

Step 4: Clean the controller with an alcohol pad

You can also use rubbing alcohol and a paper towel. Clean the controller thoroughly. You won't have to wait long alcohol evaporates at room temperature which means it will leave no residue.

**Before you start painting, make sure you are working in a wellventilated area**

Step 5: Apply the plastic adhesion promoter

Lay your controller out so it's easy to access, yet not touching another piece.

Using short, quick bursts, cover all parts of the controller (you don't have to do the inside) with the adhesion promoter.

Let this dry for 1015 minutes.

Step 6: Apply the Primer

Very similar to the last step, in short, quick bursts, cover the controller so that you see only white and none of the underlying parts are exposed.

Let this dry for 1015 minutes

Step 7: Apply the base coat

This is where the fun starts. After letting the primer dry, grab your spray paint and apply the base coat. This is what color the controller will end up being (with a little added shine after the next step)

Make sure all parts are thoroughly covered.

All to dry for 1520 minutes.

Step 8: Apply the clear coat enamel

After your base layer has dried, it's time to finish the paint job.

Instead of doing this in 1 or 2 thicker layers of paint, you want the clear coat to go on pretty thin.

Apply 34 layers of clear coat, about 12 minutes apart.

*You have to apply another coat within the first few minutes, or wait 24 hours if you feel you'd like to apply another coat for maximum protection*

Let this dry for about 1 hour. It will take 45 days before the enamel is fully hardened, so I would suggest not using it for at least that time period if you want it to last.
