Device codes let you and your employees log into Square Terminal without using an email and password, and also allow you to pair your Terminal to a specific location—which is great for devicelevel reporting.

To create a device code, go to Account and Settings in your Square Dashboard, then click Devices. Click Add a Device. Enter a nickname for your Square Terminal, select a location, and click Create.

You can send your code via email or text message, or just write it down.

On the signin screen of your Square Terminal, tap Use a device code and enter the code.

The device status in your dashboard should now say Active.
