How to make armor: Medieval Gothic gauntlets! This tutorial will show you how to make these gauntlets from steel, there's also a link to free templates.

When it comes to medieval armoring, Gothic gauntlets are one the most beautiful pieces of medieval armor. Gauntlets are also one the most challenging parts of medieval plate armor to make, since hand armor has a lot of articulation. But don't be afraid to try to make them even if you’re just a beginner on armoring, you will learn a lot about armoring in the process! Learn how to make gauntlets and you can any other articulated armor.

This tutorial also includes armoring your forearm: I'll show how to make a vambrace for the gauntlets. The thumbs are attached with small hinges just like in medieval gauntlets. I have a better tutorial on how to make hinges in my channel if you need more details. Most parts of the armor are made from 1,25 steel plates, which is pretty close to historical accuracy of medieval gauntlets, especially finger gauntlet gloves. But you can use any thickness you want. Most medieval armors were made from what is now considered "mild steel".

Medieval armor is quite vast concept and so there are also many variations of gauntlets. These kind of plate gauntlets were in use in later medieval times (starting from 14th century). These type of gauntlets aren't the easiest piece of medieval armor to make, but they will also teach you a lot about armorsmithing.

And you can do this armoring project with pretty common tools. I made some of the tools myself since I don't have money for real armorsmithing tools so I improvised a little.
