I built a steel carrier rack for the Kawasaki KLR 650 to install the mounting hardware for a EMGO Travel Trunk or case. I didn't want to drill holes into the stock rack used on the KLR, so I built the carrier rack to eliminate the need to drill holes. The EMGO Travel Trunk can easily be installed without the custom carrier rack, but it requires drilling holes in your motorcycle.

I purchased the round bar steel used to build the carrier rack at Home Depot. I believe all Home Depot stores carry the same steel. I replaced the stock rack mounting bolts used on all second generation Kawasaki KLR 650 motorcycles with longer ones that were also purchased at Home Depot. Home Depot has a special cabinet for higher quality bolts, washer's and nuts, and you can find them there. I also purchased a 3 foot length of toob steel at Home Depot needed to raise the carrier rack off the bike.

This was just a fun project for me, and building the rack isn't necessary to install the EMGO Travel Trunk.
