Kids with ADHD become highly skilled at learning how to avoid nonpreferred tasks. While this is often perceived as a behavior issue, it is not. It is an executive functioning issue, due to lack of resiliency to persevere through nonpreferred tasks. Often, they will resort to learned helplessness, which may turn into emotional manipulation of parents.

If you are (unintentionally) enabling your ADHD child's learned helplessness you are denying them the opportunity to develop resiliency, and the confidence that comes from recognizing their abilities within themselves. Remember,
