The drain fly, sometimes called sewer flies, live and breed in our drains. They feed off decaying organic matter and are most commonly found buzzing around your kitchen sink.

Drain flies are similar to fruit and phorid flies in that they are considered “filth flies.” You can easily distinguish a drain fly over the others by its unique vein pattern on the wings, and their fuzzy mothlike appearance.

For drain fly control, first identify drains that have drain fly activity. If you’re not sure, then you’ll want to treat every drain in the house or building.

Use Forid Drain Gel Cleaner. This is a concentrated biological product designed to treat organic matter buildup in sinks, drains, and garbage disposals.

Forid’s organic Microbial Grease Degrader immediately starts breaking down organic waste, eliminating the drain fly’s food source and breeding site. Apply Forid using four ounces per drain.

Pour the Forid around the lip of the drain so that it coats and runs down the sides of the drain. This process should be repeated daily for five to seven days.

Next use Gentrol IGR Aerosol. This is an insect growth regulator foam. This will help reduce the population by interrupting the flies’ life cycle, preventing maggots from maturing to adults.

Spray the Gentrol down the drain. The foam will coat the drain for total coverage and provides longlasting control.

After that, you can use Pyrid aerosol for quick contact kills. Apply this to any drain flies buzzing around after the drain treatment.

You can also use MuscaStik fly traps to trap any remaining drain flies. This is an odor and insecticidefree trap. It uses a combination of sticky orange paper and pheromones to attract flies.

Hang or place this around drains and fly activity. Though this is a safe product, it’s extremely sticky, so keep out of the reach of pets and children.

Prevent drain flies from returning by regularly cleaning drains with Forid.
