Hi guys. Seems like a common issue. Hopefully this will help some of you guys. I have a 1988 f150. This should be applicable on any of these 5 speed Mazda transmissions these fords had. If you took the shifter out in gear. Or took the transmission apart to regasket it like I did, the transmission must be in neutral, which is easy enough. The sliders must be centered, which is easy enough, as you will be able to see the brass synchro on either side. The reverse and 5th gear slider tho. It towards the rear of the transmission, and it's just a steel lever sticking straight up on the rear section of the trans, but still under the same top plate. That lever has 3 shift positions. Neutral is the center position. Any questions, feel free to ask :)
