How to change your rear tire on the road – even a very difficult one!

For The Love Of Wheels

It’s a huge advantage to be able to fix a flat, when traveling. For that reason, I will mostly do my own tire changes – just for the practice. It gives me confidence that I can deal with difficult situations alone, when I head out on remote dirt roads.

In this case I needed to change my rear tire from a Metzeler Sahara Enduro 3 to a Mitas e07 plus. The Mitas is known for being very hard to work with – and oh was it hard!

These are the tools that I use to change the rear tire (I am not sponsored):
MotionPro combo lever with 24 mm wrench
MotionPro T6 Combo Lever Adapter 24mm to 3/8"
19 mm top
Bartang trail stand
MotionPro BeadPro Tire bead breaker and lever set
Valve core remover
Valve stem puller
Leight weight bicycle pump

Also
Soap and water for lubrication
A wet cloth
A tarp and cloth to put your tools on and to put your wheels on
