How to Change The Oil on Your Workhorse Chassis W22 W24 Differential Dana S130

How to change the differential oil on your Winnebago with a W24 Workhorse chassis. With a DANA S130.
I also relocated the differential vent to a higher location to keep out moisture.
Also note if you own a W22 Workhorse with a Dana S150 you will need about 12 qts not 7 like in the Dana S130. Update buy 8 qts of oil or 2 gallons to make sure you have enough mine took 7 but yours may may take 7.5 qts
So I called the Dana factory today to get some info on how our W24 with a "smaller differential" that only holds 7 qts can support more weight at 15,500 lbs than the Dana S150 / 14,500 lbs on the W22 that holds 12 qts the Dana S150 looks so much bigger and stronger.

He told me size does not matter in this case... the Dana S150 is a older design. He told me the S130 is stronger by its design he said something about the walls being made thicker in the S130 than the S150

Dana Corporation Announces New Class 5/6 SingleDrive Axle
Mar 17, 2004
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida Mar 17, 2004 Dana Corporation’s (NYSE: DCN) Commercial Vehicle Systems group has introduced a new lineup of lightweight, singledrive axles for mediumduty applications. Known as the Dana Spicer® S130 series, the axles feature highcapacity gearing and bearing systems designed to better meet the varying needs of today’s class 5 and 6 truck markets.
“Increasingly, class 5 and 6 customers are demanding components with the longer life cycles characteristically seen in heavy trucks,” said Patxi Garcia, product manager – drive axles for Dana Commercial Vehicle Systems. “By meeting that challenge, these drive axles serve as another example of Dana’s commitment to providing our customers with the technology and systems they need and expect.”
For maximum flexibility, the S130 series of axles (gross axle weight rating of 14,500 to 16,500 lbs.) can be used in drivetrain configurations that require GVW ratings of up to 26,500 lbs., and GCW ratings up to 40,000 lbs.
Featuring premium components in a lightweight package, the S130 series is ideally suited for a variety of truck applications. They include conventional and delivery vans, walkin vans, motor homes, utility and landscape vehicles, intercity transit vehicles, school buses, and city delivery trucks. Dana’s High Power Density (HPDTM) technology was utilized in the axle design to provide the benefits of maximizing component life and improving impact resistance at greater loads, while minimizing weight and cost. The 310mm hypoid gearing and wheel differentials were specifically designed to maximize strength and increase axle life when used with today’s higher horsepower engines. Long facewidth gear teeth reduce stress, which promotes smooth, quiet operation and reduces friction to improve fuel efficiency.
The lightweight S130 drive axle series increases available payload capacities, while the reduced pinion standout distance increases vehicle installation flexibility and improves driveline angles. With the use of Danaapproved Roadranger® axle lubricants, extended lube change intervals frequently exceed vehicle longevity. In addition, the exclusive sealing pinion system keeps lube in and contamination out for lower maintenance costs.
Available optional upgrades for the Dana Spicer S130 series include:
A unique limitedslip differential that reduces maintenance and lowers operating costs by eliminating special lubricant friction additives and wearable friction plates.
An axlemounted parking brake that reduces truck complexity and simplifies OEM installation.
An axlemounted electromagnetic retarder, which enhances braking performance and increases drivetrain options.
A carriermounted ring gear speed sensor, used in combination with antilock brake systems, which increases safety, flexibility, and installation simplicity.
Widetrack axles are available for maximum stability.
Dana’s Commercial Vehicle Systems group, part of the Heavy Vehicle Technologies and Systems Group, designs, manufactures, and markets frontsteer, reardrive, trailer, and auxiliary axles; driveshafts; steering shafts; brakes; suspensions; and related systems, modules, and services for the commercial vehicle market. Major components and modules are marketed under the Spicer® brand name.
