Piers Morgan came out as A Two Spirit Penguin on tv. This video was my immediate response.

At the end of the day, our right to define ourselves is one of the most basic expressions fo free speech. Our journey is our own. While many may not agree with the identities of others, that doesn't mean we silence someone else's journey of self discovery.

I don't think personally that Piers truly is an Otherkin or Therian individual after watching several interviews. However, I am going to take them at their word that they are until they tell me otherwise. I am going to treat them the way I wish someone had treated me when I came out to the world with a controversial identity as well.

Why? Because everyday queer people are murdered, raped, silenced, and banished for simply trying to be honest about their journey. They are laughed at. Mocked. Discarded. Told that they are invalid.

Unsavory as a character or not every life matters. We need to show how serious we take identity labels by taking this person's seriously as well.

So this is for you Piers. And for anyone who may be in a situation where they feel that they don't know how to handle someone's coming out announcement.

NOTE: Two Spirit is an identity that is specific to some Indigenous tribal communities. Using it suggests that You are a part of these indigenous communities and their belief system. Piers is not Two Spirit by its current definition unless there is something we don’t know about their genetic history. This is why this video only focuses on the Penguin identity.
