How Medication can Help with Separation Anxiety in Dogs

Follow
Pooches at Play

Owners of dogs with behavioural issues can often be hesitant to consider medication, instead hoping training alone will help or that their dog will grow out of it. Unfortunately, for most dogs with anxiety disorders, it just gets worse, often impacting on their ability to join in family outings or simply coexist harmoniously with their owners.

If you are struggling with a dog that has anxiety or is reactive to other dogs, download this FREE extract from Lara Shannon’s best selling book Eat, Play, Love (your dog) to assist.

In this segment, veterinarian Dr Melissa Meehan explains some of the causes and triggers of anxiety disorder in dogs, as well as discussing some of the behaviours you may find associated with it. Dr Mel also explains the reasons why some dogs are recommended to take medication to assist with their separation anxiety, explaining how and why this can help.

If you suspect your dog has an anxiety disorder and you need help, please speak to your vet or ideally a vet behaviouralist, in addition to an experienced trainer that uses positive reinforcement training.
