Continued Next, I center the hinge side of the jamb with the wall, and I nail it at the top shims.
I use the level to make sure the jamb is plumb before I nail off the other two shim locations.
If it’s leaning in or out it will cause the door to open or shut on its own.
Now I turn to the latch side I align the jamb with the wall and nail the top off.
Then standing inside the room I open and shut the door to make sure it’s landing evenly on the door stop.
As I work my way down, adding shims and nailing, I also check the reveal on the front to make sure it consistent.
At this point I start adding shims wherever they are needed, including the top checking the reveal as I go.
These holes get filled with putty when the door is painted.
Now the door shuts with an even reveal on all three sides.
I replace one screw in each hinge with a longer 2 1/2” screw this secures the door to the framing and ensure it won’t move.
Finally I used my multitool to cut off all the shims.
