Eta Carinae is a colliding wind binary star consisting of a pair blue supergiants. Thanks to 3D modeling, supercomputer simulations, and observations of the surrounding Homonculus nebula and light echos from the Great Eruption, astronomers are beginning to understand how Eta Carina may have survived a supernovalevel explosion.
